They had to pin his arms back like that because he kept tearing off the nasal thing with the tape and hurting his face.
HUGE!!
We call him peanut because some friends of ours gave us some outfits and a blanket that had an elephant on them that said Little Peanut; when we saw him all swaddled up in the NICU, we thought he looked like a little peanut and we have been calling him that ever since!
Tired but Happy Momma, I actually was the very first one to hold him! Daddy had that honor with Matthew. I had to wait 24 hours to hold Matthew, just a few hours this time!
So glad to have all the tubes off! The red marks on his cheeks are from the tape that he pulled off multiple times. :(
Look how well he holds up his head! I need to get more pics of him doing it! He really can lift his head and look around for several minutes, SO STRONG!!
If you can't quiet tell how small he is, his head was barely the size of a grapefruit, his hands are smaller than a silver dollar.
Alexander had to spend 3 days in NICU, not for anything major, just mostly because of his age (36 1/2 weeks) and he needed some positive pressure to get his lungs fully open, other than that, he did great, breathed immediately on his own and all! But because of the Swine Flu, they weren't letting kids in the NICU so poor big brother Matthew had to wait 3 days to meet his baby brother. :( It was very confusing for him, being told that Alexander was no longer in my belly yet not getting to see him. It was also hard on him that Gaelan and I were away from home for nearly a week. He saw us everyday, but still hard and confusing to come home without us. The day we got to come home and he came to hospital to find Alexander in our room with me, he was so excited and a little nervous. It was funny, I had to encourage him to come hold his brother, but once he did, he was over the moon in love with him. All he could say was "Aw, he's so cute!" We went out to lunch after the hospital. We kept Alexander in his carseat completely covered with a blanket. Matthew just had to go over to it several time to make sure he was still there and was doing ok. LOL
Happy Big Brother finally meeting Alexander!
Sleeping Angel, doing one of the 2 things he does best, sleeping! The other is nursing!
He is so cute and funny! Already has a little bit of personality even though he is asleep like 22 hours a day! He isn't much of a crier (yet, and I hope he stays that way, Matthew was so colicky)He usually only cries when he is hungry and we try to change his diaper before he eats. Most of the time he lets us know of his discomfort, or disapproval of something by grunting! It is so funny. He hates being flat on his back, I guess from all the time he was in the NICU, so he other sleeps on our tummies on his, or cradled in our arms or in his bouncy seat, I guess he feels more cradled in that. He really doesn't care for diaper changes, but his getting better, but if you take too long you will hear about it. Pretty much he doesn't like to be naked unless he is in a warm bath(more on that in another blog) and really doesn't like being cold. But can you blame him on that, he spent nearly 9 months in my nice warm belly to be born in a cold and wet winter. He is a "hold me" baby as we like to call it, but that's ok, there are lots of people around who want to hold him.
Getting some more love and welcome home from his big brother!
Matthew loves his baby brother. Not to much, or too little. He doesn't ignore him or act jealous of him, but he doesn't have to hover over him either. He likes to come in my room in the morning and hold him, and then periodically checks on him through out the day. He does say that he wants him to wake up and play, but is getting that it will be a while before he can play with him. The other day, I put Alexander in his swing and was sitting in the kitchen, and Matthew just went and got his rocking chair, pulled it up next to the swing and started to rock and sing to the baby. It was so cute and precious, no one told him to do it!
Peanut loves his shell!! LOL, he just loves being carried in his Moby sling wrap!
I had a regular sling with Matthew and he loved it, but it only worked for the first few months, so this time around I did some research and found this great sling called a Moby wrap. It is 5.5 meters of cotton fabric that you wrap around your body in a particular way and you can put baby in it in several different holds. Alexander's favorite is the hug hold, where his chest and head are against mine, he could sleep there forever! The above pic is the cradle hold, I put him in that because he was awake and I wanted him to be able to see out! More on the Moby wrap go here.
Another "eye ball" moment as we call them, but they are getting to be more frequent and longer lasting. Not sure yet what color his eyes are, one person asked if they were brown, but don't see how, I don't know of any one on either side of our families that has brown eyes, most have green eyes!

When the doc first pulled him out, she said he looked like Daddy, and I don't disagree, though sometimes I see Gaelan's dad and my Grandpa, but he also looks a lot like Matthew did at this age. Except for the blond hair. This is Matthew below.
They were born at the exact same gestational age, 36 1/2 weeks, and nearly at the same time, Matthew was born at 12:45pm.
Alexander weighed a little more than Matthew did, by 9 oz, but was an inch shorter and nearly 3 inches smaller head.(Matthew's was 15 inches) I was convinced that this baby was a lot bigger than Matthew was, because I had gotten so much bigger this time around, so I only bought 0-3month clothes, man bad idea, though the newborn clothes swallow him whole too. LOL
Happy and recuperating Mommy and Alexander in our matching pj's. LOVE the hat!!
