*First of all, a disclaimer. In my opinion I don't like pics of kids in their underwear on blogs or other public forums(not to be rude if you do it, it's just a personal preference I have always had, I don't think any less or bad of anyone that does it), but Matthew is so proud of himself and wanted pics, so here they are. But from now on, he will always have pants or shorts on, I just don't like even seeing Matthew run around the house in his undies, (I have never liked it when people took their kids out in diapers, so I guess that transfers to undies too) so I will never do it after this.*
While on our trip to visit Nessa and Jessica, he got to see that Jessica(2) is potty trained, and I had hoped that it would jump start his interest. He has been physically ready for a while, but has shown no interest and has refused to even try. I was some what disappointed that he really didn't care that Jessica was using the potty, but I discussed with him more on what being potty trained meant; cool underwear and that he would be a big big boy. I kept up the positive "brainwashing" all week, telling him that we would start when we got home and he seemed to warm up to it. Monday afternoon we started and he did great. Never argued when we told him it was time to go. This time I put the potty in the living room and I think that made a big difference. Matthew has to be in the middle of everything and I think that putting him in the bathroom made him feel like he was being removed from everything. When we started I had to make sure he went every twenty minutes or he would have an accident. On Monday night, I hadn't yet gotten pull-ups and he got upset when we put the diaper on him to go to bed. But I assured him that he was still a big boy, but couldn't go to potty while he was asleep, so he needed the diaper and then from now on we would use the pull-ups. Tuesday night he still was upset that he had to take off his big boy underwear, so we put them on over his pull-up. For the most part he as woke up dry and holds it until I get him on the potty in the morning! On Wed we had to go to SA for my OB appt and he did great, no accidents in his pull-up on the way there.(we only do pull-ups for car trips and bed/naptime) After that appt we went to my primary doc to get check on about the migraines I have been having. We ate lunch and went potty. I ended up being in the office for 2 hours and Matthew refused to let his Papa take him to the potty. I was worried that he had soaked his pull-up, but he was completely dry! On Thursday however he backslid a little and had 5 accidents, but we are back on track and can wait up to 45 min right now, we are working our way up to an hour or more! I must say, that once he was willing it has been pretty easy. For the most part he goes when we tell him, even if he is in his room watching cartoons. (I wish he was this compliant and obediant with everything else) Every now and then he refuses to go and I say "ok, well I guess we need to put a diaper on you" and he goes right to the potty and goes! Only a few times has he asked to use the potty, and I took that as a way of him saying that he needed to go, but from what I understand, that will take some time. Only difficulty we are having right now is the Pooping, but that was expected since he has a lot of issues with that anyways. So praise God for this and that he should be completely potty trained by the time the Baby comes and I will have to stay in the hospital for a few days. And best of all, won't have 2 in diapers. Now I have to store the big jumbo box of size 4 diapers for the next one.
Matthew getting ready to go potty.
On the potty and so proud!!
"I did it!!" He just gets so exited that he went potty and he can get his undies and pants up by himself!!
