Well, We are moving in May to a new, bigger apartment with an extra bathroom; so I decided to make the guest/boys bathroom John Deere themed. I got to looking at the stuff online and they want way too much money for that stuff so I asked Gaelan's mom to let me borrow a sewing machine and I would make it my-self, with some instruction from her of course. I started with the shower curtain. This is it. Though it does not have a John Deere Logo on it, it is JD. Then I got to thinking about his bedroom. We wanted to do his nursery in John Deere and couldn't find the stuff, and the few sets we found were online, hand made and are horribly expensive!!! So I thought, I would make all of that too!
I was going to wait until we moved to transition Matthew into a toddler bed, but I got so excited after I finished everything that I went ahead and changed him over so we could try out his new stuff! He did really well. He hasnt fallen out yet! He wont get out either unless we tell he can, even when he wakes up in the morning, which surprised me; I thought for sure that he would be getting out of it every chance he got. He loves all the John Deere or "Jay Dee" stuff. When we went to the store to get the fabric, he got excited and wanting to hold the bolts of fabric, saying 'jay dee" "jay dee" He climbs up in his bed and points to the stuff on the blanket and sheets and says "jay dee", "tractor" etc.
I made everything but the quilt. Long story short, we had a hard time finding the panel in stores and in the process of trying to get it online, Sherri came across one already made on Ebay at a great price, so we just bought it, wasn't sure if I could quilt it anyway. I probably could have, but buying it saved me time and that is always good!
Here is his bed skirt
I had to cut slits on the side because of the rails, but when I have to take the rails off, what I am going to do. I didnt have enough to put a skirt on the head of the bed so I cant change it around. All well
Thats the reverse side of the blanket and the sheets I made. Fitted sheets arent as hard as I thought it would be.
The boppy pillow is what he uses for a pillow so I of course needed to make a cover. It was trickier than I thought, but I managed, without a pattern. I goofed up the back a little, but covered it with Velcro, got to love the stuff.
Then I decided to make curtains, LINED Curtains. I was doing so well, I though that I could pull it off. Look it up online and did it! It worked. So finally we can block out the sun.
I had some fabric left over so I made a lamp shade with it.
I still have fabric left over from the other projects so when we get to the new place, I am going to decoupage the light switch and plug covers to match the bathroom and bedroom, and to make the soap dispenser for the bathroom. I have found that I love sewing and actually a little addicted to it. Twice I stayed up to 5am trying to get something finished! LOL
On a side note. He has been interested in the potty, wanting to sit on the toilet and stuff, so we went and got one. I don't think that he will be potty trained anytime soon, but we are working on it since he shows such interest. Sometimes too much interest, he throws a fit when you take him off the potty and everything. Well he has pee-peed twice and #2 once. We will see how it goes, I am not going to push it, but we are now in process. This is a new area for me. I have been taking care of babies and kids for most of my life and I have done it all. I was changing and feeding my brother when he was born and I was only 14 months old. Anyways, I have NEVER taken care of a kid that was being or in the middle of potty training, so I have no frame of reference and all my friends down here have children the same age or younger than Matthew so. We will see if I can handle the potty training. I was hoping to put it off until I got a job and put him in day care and let the day care do it, but it looks like he decided to jump the gun, all well, I guess I will just wing it!
